To be honest the only ritual I come back to is surrounding death. My piece will attempt to reflect the emotions felt during the time of grief, the healing power of the ceremony and faith. A ceremony provides the intentionality of a space, a moment and a practise. Bereavement is multidimensional and grief has many layers. The service gives comfort and strength to those surrounded by death and is a response to the call to heal ourselves.
Using wood veneer, graphite and French pastel I plan to portray an image of trees. My painting will black and white with a dark path leading to light. Trees symbolize life and the journey. With emphasise on light and dark I will attempt to portray the mood and path surrounding death. I want the viewer to recognise the feeling of emptiness that can lead to light.
